Arsenal vs Chelsea: the rivalry
Arsenal and Chelsea first met in the league on 9 November 1907, when Chelsea won 2–1 at Stamford Bridge. The two grounds sit in different parts of London, Emirates Stadium in Holloway to the north and Stamford Bridge in Fulham to the west, and the fixture has been played in the top flight for most of the century since.
The rivalry was at its sharpest from the early 2000s, when both clubs were competing for the biggest trophies at the same time. Chelsea knocked Arsenal out of the Champions League quarter-finals in 2004, and the clubs have met in five cup finals. Arsenal won the FA Cup finals of 2002, 2017 and 2020. Chelsea won the League Cup final in 2007 and the Europa League final in 2019.
Chelsea arrive at Emirates Stadium as one of the most successful clubs of the Premier League era. They won the Champions League in 2012 and 2021, and in 2025 they added the Conference League and the Club World Cup. Arsenal's biggest win over Chelsea came at Emirates Stadium: 5–0 in April 2024.
