Everton Football Club was founded in 1878 and is one of the oldest professional clubs in England. It was a founding member of the Football League in 1888 and has spent more seasons in the top tier than any other English club.

Everton has won nine league titles, five FA Cups and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1985. The most successful modern chapter came in the mid-1980s under Howard Kendall, who led the club to league championships in 1984/85 and 1986/87 and to that European trophy.

Dixie Dean set the record that still frames the club's history: 60 league goals in the 1927/28 season, in 39 matches. No one has come close in the English top flight since.

Everton played at Goodison Park from 1892 until 2025, one of the oldest purpose-built football grounds in the world. For the 2025/26 season the men's team moved across the city to the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, now named Hill Dickinson Stadium. Goodison Park did not close: it became the home of Everton Women, making it the largest dedicated women's football stadium in the UK.

The new ground holds 52,769 and is built as a four-stand bowl on the River Mersey, with a steep single-tier home end behind one goal. Lower tiers place you closer to the pitch, while upper tiers give a wider view of the field and the stands around it.
