Chelsea vs Liverpool: a modern rivalry

Chelsea and Liverpool first met in the league on Christmas Day 1907, at Anfield, and Chelsea won 4–1. Chelsea play at Stamford Bridge in Fulham, West London, and Liverpool at Anfield, their home since 1892.

The rivalry as supporters know it today grew in the 2000s. Between 2005 and 2008 the clubs met in three Champions League semi-finals: Liverpool went through in 2005 and 2007, Chelsea in 2008.

They have also met in five domestic cup finals. Chelsea won the League Cup final in 2005 and the FA Cup final in 2012. Liverpool won both finals of 2022, the League Cup and the FA Cup, on penalties, and the League Cup final in 2024.

The Premier League plays the fixture twice a season, once at each ground. Both matches are on this page: Liverpool's home match at Anfield and Chelsea's home match at Stamford Bridge.
