Derby della Madonnina: AC Milan vs Inter Milan

The Derby della Madonnina is the meeting between AC Milan and Inter Milan. It is named after the Madonnina, the statue of the Virgin Mary on top of Milan Cathedral. Both clubs play their home matches at San Siro, so it is one of the few big city derbies that is always played in the same stadium.

Inter was founded in 1908 by members who left the Milan club after a split over signing foreign players. The first official derby was played in January 1909, and AC Milan won 3–2.

The two clubs have also met in two Champions League semi-finals: AC Milan went through in 2003, and Inter Milan went through in 2023. AC Milan have won the European Cup seven times and Serie A 19 times. Inter Milan have won Serie A 21 times and the European Cup three times.

Serie A plays the derby twice a season, once as AC Milan's home match and once as Inter Milan's. Both matches are at San Siro, officially the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, and both are on this page.
